Sweet Tooth Sunday: Strawberry Jam Thumbprint Cookies Recipe and Tutorial

Sweet Tooth Sundays is a series on Sweetie Pie Bakery in which I post a recipe, along with a tutorial to complete a sewn treat to accompany it!

Materials:
1 fat quarter of ivory felt
scraps of red velvet (whatever other fabric you would like to use for the jam)
thread
needle
ivory embroidery thread
stuffing
yoyo maker (optional)
sewing machine (optional)
circle about 2.75" in diameter (i used a glass for this)

With your yoyo template, lay the fabric for the jam in between, with the wrong side facing up.

Trim around the template, leaving about 1/4" excess.

Knot the end of your thread and begin sewing around the yoyo. Make sure to leave the tail of the thread long so you have something to pull and knot at the end.

After you've sewn all the way around, pop out the top of the template.

Then take the top template out of the fabric.

Pull the thread tight making the yoyo.

Secure the center of the yoyo with a knot and trim your thread.

For the cookie, use your glass top to make a circle measuring approximately 2.75" in diameter.

Do not cut out the cookie. Just sew around this with your sewing machine. Make sure you leave about 1.5" opening so that you can turn the cookie right side out.

Now cut the cookie out leaving 1/4" seam. Then stuff the cookie and sew the opening shut with a blind stitch.

Draw a circle on top of the cookie to use as a guide for the indentation. (I used the bottom of my spool of thread)

Use a back stitch to sew around the perimeter of this circle.

Use a blind stitch to attach the yoyo to the top of the cookie.

Done! Now make some more so you have enough for your whole tea party...

Enjoy! Now go make a batch of real thumbprint cookies since you're so hungry for them now!
