Loving The Party Dress Book

Last month I mentioned how much I loved Amy Sedaris, but what I didn't talk about was her style. If you notice, shes always wearing pretty party frocks. Pretty party frocks by Mary Adams to be exact.

Recently designer Mary Adams released a book, The Party Dress Book: How to Sew the Best Dress in the Room. I can't say enough great things about it! If I had a bolt of organza on hand, I would have begun sewing immediately. Actually, I took my first glance at this book while eating dinner one night and my Lean Cuisine got cold!

The book is not only chock full of eye candy but Adams give you such great insight and tips...and INSPIRATION. I was really inspired on how one pattern can get so many different looks through material application and alteration. Some of my favorite sections were on the bias strips and quilting, however the piecing of vintage aprons on this custom garment for Amy Sedaris is beautiful as well!

The book would be a great resource on it's own, but there is also a customizable pattern included, along with several step by step instructions on how to create several different looks with the pattern. I will definately be working on some of these for the spring and summer. They would also be great for wedding season! just be careful not to upstage the bridesmaids ;)

  2. :D This tip couldn't come at a more convenient time! In July, one of my friends is getting married and I wanted to make a stylish dress myself.
A really big thank you for the tip!
