I bought Handmade Beginnings way back when, and was finally able to put the book to use this past weekend. There are a couple baby gifts that I needed to make and was so happy to have this book to refer to. I've been dying to make the Henny Penny Chicken since Anna Maria Horner did a preview for her book.
I bought a stack of Folksy Flannel fat quarters to make the Binkie Bunnies that I sent out for Easter gifts and thought they would be the perfect left overs to use. In the middle of the project, I realized that I was going to need more, resulting in more left overs for another project. Don't you love how that works out?
I love this Henny Penny. I made her body with some pale yellow fleece I had on hand and Folksy Flannels for the baby chicks and wings. For the underside of the wings, I went with a solid flannel in pale yellow, trying to conserve the pretty stuff. I'm such a fabric hoarder! I think this comes from a design background and trying to spend money right where you see it and being smart with the rest.
Sewing with such cozy materials as the weather turns chilly is sure making me want to finish any one of the three quilts I have in progress....ah, if only my kids slept later than 5am I could stay up late to finish everything!
AW!! This is so cute!
