Blueberry Picking

Trying to enjoy pieces of summer while keeping a track of a hectic schedule, I went and picked some blueberries last week!

It was so hot here in Chicago...so soooo hot. But still. I went out, alone, and picked thirteen pounds of blueberries. I'm so happy I did, though! I've got a ton of delicious berries in the freezer to last me through the winter. I'm not sure how long they'll last, so next year I'll have a better idea of how many pounds to get.

I found some yummy looking blueberry things on Pinterest. What are your favorite blueberry recipes?

  2. I live in Maine and make a lot of things with blueberries! Definitely make jam if you have enough berries. It is so amazingly good. I just used the instructions on pickyourown.org and make sure to use the no sugar pectin (I use 4 cups of sugar, I think, instead of the 7 cups called for in the regular pectin). The other absolutely delicious thing I make is the blueberry pie recipe from Cook's Illustrated. It's amazing. And make their crust recipe, which is now my favorite crust. The pie uses the addition of grated granny smith apple which adds pectin so the pie isn't watery, but it melts down and you don't notice it in the pie. Oh, and I love the blueberry cake recipe from Margaret Chase Smith. The MCS Library posted it on their facebook page. I like to bake it in a 9x13 pan for 35 minutes instead of two layer pans though.
